Feedback to darwin

I do agree that the idea is rather one dimensional although i wanted to do only one timelapse on a large canvas. I like that they found the speed right as i had a lot of trouble trying to reach the perfect speed. I agree that the pictures weren’t very good and i’ve said this before, if i had perhaps moved the camera back so as to see my entire body maybe it would be more interesting.

My final risk video

Evaluation

Overall i feel i could’ve done better with my project but with the time and equipment of which i was given i think i did pretty well.

I am most pleased with the whole overall feel of the project and they way it stays happy and bubbly throughout the whole video

Music used

I ended up using “the mexican hat dance” as the soundtrack for my video. I got the mp3 by using an online video to mp3 converter whereby you put in a youtube url which has the song needed in it and it converts the sound in the youtube video into an mp3 that you can extract.

I realize that the mexican hat is protected by copyright but i figured that it wouldn’t be shown to a huge audience and i wouldn’t be receiving any money for the video i made

What i’ve learnt

Over the course i have learnt

  • How to use Istopmotion effectively (using set time intervals to make a time-lapse video)
  • New painting techniques and experimented with using new canvas types (Cardboard cut outs)
  • To arrange my time effectively and use the time when i don’t have the equipment i need in a useful and constructive way
  • To offer my help to those who need it when they need an actor or help with editing (acting in Elliot’s film, modeling for Emma and Hannah’s project)
  • Working outside of College to keep the creative progress going (home time-lapse project)

Negative peer feedback cloud

This cloud shows the negative feedback i received for my video.

The larger the words are depends on the amount of people who used that comment in their feedback

Thoughts:

Overall i am surprised at the majority of the comments that were given for my video.

I agree that a fade-out should be added at the end but i thought it wasn’t too fast and the idea of having a background doesn’t really appeal to me. I think the fact that the second painting was more minimalist than the first made people think it was unfinished.

Positive Peer feedback cloud

This cloud shows the positive feedback i received for my video.

The larger the words are depends on the amount of people who used that comment in their feedback

Thoughts

I am very pleased with the feedback i received. I really like that people appreciated the music i chose and the fact that they found it humorous wasn’t intentional but it doesn’t irritate me, it’s actually a nice little addition which I’m really pleased with.

Evaluation

Overall I really think i could’ve done much better than what my final product came out to be and i hope to learn from the mistakes I made in this project and come out with something better next time.

3 things to remember

  • Plan time more carefully, I didn’t organise myself which is partly why my final product was of a poor standard
  • Adapt to whats happening around you if certain materials or tools are not available at a time when you need them try to improvise and use the time you have constructively
  • Make sure work is done inside and outside of college

Final process

On Friday i managed to finish editing all of my footage and have it in an exported file by 2:00.

Problems and certain happenings:

Thursday:

Finished the painting of my piece, painted 4 sketches in total. Finished the second sketch and did two more.

Lost two of the sketches due to a technical error, data was irretrievable and so changes had to be made to the overall plan and timing of the finished product.

Solved the copied frame problem by simply speeding up the footage in final cut pro.

Friday:

Had the idea of having the finished painted sketch being displayed alongside the time-lapse useful in saving time having to have extra time wasted after the sketch is painted

Added soundtrack (Mexican hat dance)

Problem

Recently i played out (in IStopMotion) my time-lapse piece so far and it is too long (2 mins 33 secs). I attempted to fix this by making a new project with a faster frame rate and by copying the frames from the original to the new project, it should get shorter. What it actually does is copy the frames a calculated amount so that it remains the same duration. Currently i have moved to 100 frames per second and have discovered that each frame has been copied five times. I have started fixing this today by deleting the 4 copies for each frame but have not yet finished and will do so by tomorrow. The copying only happens when transferring occurs between projects and so continuing with the project will not result in unneeded copies.

Todays progress and planning for thursday

I did quite a bit today, it went swimmingly and nothing went wrong. I finished my first sketch and started and finished my second sketch all done under camera and have started to edit the film. I still need to film myself doing 2 other sketches. I’ll be doing this tomorrow. I think i’m well on my way to finishing my project by thursday

TOMS EVALUATION

Good Point

  • Nice Pictures
  • Good analysis of the videos

Bad Points

  • A bit a boring theme
  • I would like to have seen an introduction to your blog

I agree strongly with Thomas and have made changes accordingly an introduction will be added and the theme has been changed

Experimental and underground cinema (Big Shave)

I decided to analyse the short film by Martin Scorsese known as “Big Shave”

    Response

I actually really enjoyed the film, it may be weird but it does so in a very interesting way. While it may be gory it’s hard to look away as you watch in disbelief of a man massacring his face. It also hit a comedy note as after a while the amount of gore and blood got a little silly and it’s hard to not laugh really

    Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorsese is a renowned director most notable for “Taxi Driver” and “The Departed) both of which he directed and were nominated for oscars. He mostly does does dark gangster films and is known for working closely with the actor Robert Deniro.

    The Film Itself

The film is also known as Viet ‘67, this is the reference to Vietnam which was going on at the time of the showing of the film (1967). The Idea of the film was to represent the USA’s self destructive course through the war in Vietnam.
